Pleased to announce the publication of a new peer-reviewed article titled “mapping and Measuring addiction recovery: recommended protocols through the PHENX Toolkit” . This study addresses a key challenge in substance-use science by expanding the PhenX Toolkit — NIDA's publicly accessible repository of standardized measurement protocols widely used in epidemiology and clinical research — to include 15 rigorously developed protocols specifically focused on recovery from substance use disorders. This paper delineates the procedure for proposing and revising protocols specific to the recovery construct; the final protocols recommended for inclusion in the Toolkit; and future measurement work suggested to advance scientific knowledge in these important fields of research and clinical work.

This study addresses a key challenge in substance-use science by expanding the PhenX Toolkit — NIDA's publicly accessible repository of standardized measurement protocols widely used in epidemiology and clinical research — to include 15 rigorously developed protocols specifically focused on medical cannabis and polysubstance use. These standardized measures help scientists collect consistent, high-quality data on patterns of cannabis use, co-use with other substances, and related behaviors, supporting stronger comparison across studies and enhancing the ability to synthesize research findings internationally.
